Audio Video Tape Transfer
G.H.S Media’s Audio Video Tape Repair website specializes in repairing audio cassettes, video tapes, and camcorder tapes. Our services include fixing issues like snapped or chewed-up tapes, damaged housing, and mould damage on video tapes and to ensure long-lasting repairs, we use only high-quality splicing tape. Since 2004, we have provided affordable and professional repair services to Scotland, England, and Wales.
Audio Cassette Repair
If you have a compact audio cassette that has snapped or the tape has come off the reel, we can fix it for you. This process involves opening up the cassette housing to splice the tape or reattach it to the reel. If your cassette housing has screws, there won’t be any issues. However, for older cassettes that aren’t held together with screws, we will carefully open up the housing to access the tape. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to put the tape back into the original housing once it’s opened. Instead, we will put it in a new cassette shell.
We also offer to rehouse cassettes that have become sticky inside, causing them to stop playing every few seconds, known as Sticky-shed syndrome. If the tape is damaged or chewed up, we will have to remove the damaged tape before repairing it. Unfortunately, this means you will lose some of the recording as the damage can’t be repaired. It can also cause damage to your cassette player when playing the cassette back.
Audio Reel Repair
Reels, like cassettes, can be prone to damage or getting chewed up, which can result in the tape snapping. However, we offer a solution by removing the damaged tape and splicing it back together. In addition, we can replace or attach leader tape to ensure that you can listen to the entire recording when playing back your reel. If your reel is damaged or cracked, we can also replace it and then reload your tape onto the new reel for you. If you notice Sticky-shed syndrome on your ¼” tape, we provide a tape-baking service that can temporarily restore its playability and allow for the transfer of recordings.
DAT Tape Repair
Our DAT repair service can effectively restore your damaged DAT tape by carefully opening it up, removing the damaged tape, and expertly splicing it back together. Unfortunately, the portion of the recording that is damaged will be lost after the tape is cut away.. Additionally, we provide a rehousing service to replace the shell of your DAT tape, further ensuring its longevity.
Betamax & Betacam Tape Repair
If you need Betamax or Betacam repair services, we can help with repair for any chewed or snapped tape. Our process involves opening up the tape shell, cutting away any damaged tape, and splicing it back together. If the Betamax or Betacam tape housing is damaged, we can replace it by taking out the tape and rehousing it in a new shell.
Should your tape have been stored in a damp place, such as a loft, garage or shed, and has developed mould, we can remove the mould from the tape and clean the shell, making the footage playable once again. However, mould can sometimes cause permanent damage, resulting in distorted sound or a jumping picture.
VHS Tape Repair
If you need VHS repair services, we can help with tape repair for any chewed or snapped tapes. Our process involves opening up the tape shell, cutting away any damaged tape, and splicing it back together.

Camcorder Tape Repair
If you have snapped or chewed up Camcorder tapes, we offer a repair service for VHS-C, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, Mini DV, HDV, DVCAM or DVC Pro. Additionally, we can repair tapes with damaged housing by replacing the shell.
We understand that tapes stored in poor places like the loft, garage or shed can develop mould, which is why we offer mould removal services for VHS-C tapes. We can clean the shell and remove the mould, making the footage playable again. However, in some cases, mould can cause permanent damage resulting in distorted sound or a jumping picture. Please note that we are only able to offer mould removal for VHS-C format tapes, due to the size of other camcorder tapes we are unable to offer this service for them.
Video Tape Baking
Usually, video and camcorder tapes used by consumers do not need to be baked unless they have been kept in damp conditions, causing them to become sticky and snap. We can provide tape baking services to dry out the tape, which can then be spliced back together and played once again. There are also instances where baking is necessary for tapes that have become mouldy, particularly if the mould is still damp and has not yet dried out.
